Post-Alpha Update: Tutorial, Ranking, Stats, More Non-Lethal Options, and More!

Here’s the real update we promised!

Two reminders before we get started:

1) If your reward tier is eligible for Sneaky Ninja’s alpha and you haven’t received an email, please contact us! A couple people reported that it went to their spam filter, but they caught it in time before it was deleted. We can easily resend it but you have to let us know first!

2) If your reward tier is eligible for any of the community design streams and you want to participate in those, please also contact us! We want to get those started but we need to know when the best time for everyone is so we can have the maximum amount of people attend. We also have some people posting their ideas on the secret design forums, but we want more of you to be there too! Email us and we can grant you access!

Now with that out of the way, let’s get down to it!

More New Items and Preordering!

We’re back again with this week’s update as promised! Today we have three new tidbits to share, but first, some news: Sneaky Ninja is now able to preordered from our site!

We’ve been asked about this a few times from people who missed out on pledging, so now they have the chance to not only preorder the game but also get in on some of the rewards from Kickstarter! We also added the option for upgrades for those of you who already backed, if you don’t wanna miss out on some of the cooler rewards you didn’t get before (like the Alpha, which should launch within the next week or two!). And for the super generous of you… there’s also a donate button!

Now onto the updates!

May Update (New items and such, and incoming Alpha!)

Hey guys! Sorry for the silence, it’s really easy to get lost in development and forget to share what’s going on once in a while! We’re hoping to change that starting now, though, with at least one small update every week if we can.

Just a heads-up to our backers: hopefully everyone received emails from Kickstarter about filling out surveys and receiving your rewards, since I’ve been told from a couple people that it ended up in their spam folder. If you haven’t received one and can’t find it in your spam folder (since it may have been deleted by now), let us know and we’ll get you all the info you need to know!

We’re still waiting on responses from a number of backers about their rewards, including becoming an NPC or a playable skin and the three design streams. We want to pick a date to start the streams soon, but we need to base it around your availability, so please get back to us soon!

Sneaky Ninja Kickstarter Update #24: SNEAKY NINJA IS FUNDED!! Wii U version confirmed! Join us for some fun in our 24 hour livestream!

View the Kickstarter

View this update on Kickstarter

What an amazing ride! An entire month of nailbiting is finally over, Sneaky Ninja has been FUNDED in its final 24 hours! We really, really, really could not have done this without the support of our fans, and we just can’t explain how grateful we are! Thanks to all of your help, Sneaky Ninja will end up being a significantly better game than we would’ve been able to make otherwise with all of the cool software we can now afford!

And of course, now we can officially promise a Wii U release of the game! This has been a huge priority for us personally as big Nintendo fans, and we’re glad that other Nintendo fans have shared our excitement for the idea and come together to make it happen! The support from the Nintendo community in particular has been awesome, so thanks so much to all of you and we’re very happy to be able to give you the game after all!

We still have time left over to maybe reach a stretch goal, so we’re not letting up yet! But we’re still making time for some fun, so we’ve been chilling with our fans in a 24 hour livestreamcounting down to the end of the Kickstarter! We’ve been streaming games, answering questions, and challenging our fans to online matches in Smash 4! Come by our Twitch channel and have some fun, we’re going all the way til 12pm EST March 12th!

That’s where we’ll be until the Kickstarter officially comes to a close. It’s been absolutely awesome, and thank you so, so much to everyone who was a part of this adventure! Now we need to take a day or seven to sleep, but after that, it’s right back to work. We can’t wait to keep in touch with all of you and get you involved in the rest of Sneaky Ninja’s development!

Dawn of the Second Day

- 48 Hours Remain -

Just 48 hours left now, and less than 10% left to go! Thanks so much to everyone who’s helped us get this far, we really and truly could not have done this without you. We’ve very grateful for everyone who donated to or shared the project, every single one of you! But we’re not quite done yet, we still have a little ways to go before we can rest. Please keep spreading the word! If you haven’t donated yet, please consider donating a little, every bit helps no matter how small! And if you already donated, hey, take a look at the new rewards we’ve added in the past couple weeks and see if anything tickles your fancy! You can always upgrade. ;)

Now onto our second-to-last update!

screen3C

Wait, huh? Did we slip into an alternate reality where Sneaky Ninja was actually developed for the NES? Oh, right, that’s just concept art for the 8-bit bonus levels! These levels are a stretch goal which, as always, we’ll try our hardest to get into the game either way. They’d be filled with retro goodness, with all the pixels and chiptunes you could want — because what indie game would be complete without some 8-bit?

More Environments and a Sneak Peek at World 2 (72 HOURS LEFT!!)

Dawn of the First Day

- 72 Hours Remain -

This is it guys, the final 3 days! We’re so close to our goal, we just need one last big push to reach it! If you want to see this game happen, please help spread the word and tell your friends about it! Anyone you know who likes games, well have we got a game for them — but we need your help and theirs to make it happen, we really can’t do it without you! Especially all you Nintendo fans out there, we need your help making the Wii U release a reality!

Now onto our update!

Ta-daaa! This is our first-ever sneak peek of the second world in Sneaky Ninja, the Plains.Once you escape the Forest of world 1, you enter a wide open field of rolling hills and farmland for world 2. With a different environment comes different mechanics too, like hiding in haystacks and scarecrows, taking cover with a grazing group of cows and pigs for a mobile hiding spot, or spooking an animal to use their sounds as a distraction!

Sneaky Ninja Kickstarter Update #21: The World Map (And 4 DAYS LEFT!!)

View the Kickstarter

View this update on Kickstarter

Phew, it’s been a big week so far, but hopefully it gets even bigger! We’re at 77% right now and the campaign ends this Thursday, March 12th, at noon, leaving us with 4 days to reach our goal. We’re way closer than we were a week ago so we’re confident we can make it! But we need your help spreading the word so more people can enter the wonderful world of Sneaky Ninja before it’s too late!

Now onto the update:

For demo purposes we’ve been stuck with a plain old level select screen, but where’s the fun in that? Where’s the adventure? Having a proper world map to show the journey across the lands from level to level is something we’ve always wanted to do and would add a lot to thefeeling of progression throughout the game. We have it listed as a stretch goal, but as always we’ll try our hardest to get it in the game either way.

Sneaky Ninja SMASH! Challenge Us in Smash Bros. for a Chance to Win Prizes! (Now open for non-backers!)

smash

Check out the Kickstarter here!

We have less than 48 HOURS LEFT and we’re 92% FUNDED! We need to hit our goal to be able to release on the Wii U, and we need the support of Nintendo fans to make it happen! Please help us out!

Update: We’ll be streaming Smash fights during our 24 hour livestream on the last day of the Kickstarter! Join us at twitch.tv/StarfallStudios for live battles and prizes! Follow the normal entrance rules below to fight us on stream (Wii U only, unfortunately).

Attention Sneaky Ninja fans! Think you’re good at Super Smash Bros.? Challenge the Sneaky Ninja developers online and see how you stack up for a chance to get your name in a special section of the credits AND automatically bump up your reward tier in the Kickstarter!

We’ve now opened the challenge to non-backers as well! Even if you haven’t donated yet, you can get a virtual “coupon” of sorts that will make sure you get your name in the credits and your reward tier bumped up if you donate later!

We’ve restructured the way the contest works, since previously there was a pretty huge skill gap between Round 1 and Round 2. It’s now divided into 3 Levels and you can choose which one to enter, instead of starting from the bottom and moving up to the top. Our poor Level 1 Lou was getting a little tired of being steamrolled by people on their way to fight me! If you start at Level 1 or 2, you can move up to the next level if you win for a shot at more prizes!

Level 1 (Easy – Wii U)

You’ll be up against Lou, on the Wii U. Don’t worry, he’s a pushovers! If you win against one him, you’ll get your name in Sneaky Ninja’s credits as a “Bronze Ninja Warrior” and you move up to Level 2!

Level 2 (Medium – 3DS)

You’ll be up against James, on the 3DS. He’s a big step up from Lou, so be prepared for a fight! If you win against him, you’ll get your name in Sneaky Ninja’s credits as a “Silver Ninja Warrior”, and you’ll automatically be bumped up to the next reward tier (for example, the $15 tier will be bumped up to $20). And you move up to Level 3!

Level 3 (Hard – 3DS or Wii U)

You get a chance to play against the final boss — me! Not to brag, but I’ll be a tougher fight than the first two, and if you can defeat me you’ll get your name in the credits as “Golden Ninja Warrior” and your initial reward tier will be DOUBLED! (So a $15 tier will be bumped up to $30!)

 The Rules

The rules of the match will be For Glory online rules: 2 lives, Omega versions of all stages, no items, and no custom moves. And it’ll be best 2 out of 3!

Here’s how to enter:

Email battles@starfallstudios.net with the title “Sneaky Ninja Smash”, and include your name (the one you backed the Kickstarter with!), which Level you’d like to start on (unfortunately, Lou only has a Wii U and James only has a 3DS, so those levels are limited to those systems!), and your Friend Code (if 3DS) or your NNID (if Wii U). We’ll add you as soon as possible, then get back to you to see if you’re ready, and then the games begin!

This challenge will remain open for the rest of the Kickstarter, until March 12th (only 8 days left!). We’ll see you online!

(Additional rules: players must have backed at Ninja Tier ($10) or above to be eligible for bumping up their tier!)

Sneaky Ninja Kickstarter Update #15: 10 Days Left! Plans for Final Week and Final 24 Hours Livestream!

(We don’t like to have updates that are all about business, so stick with us until the bottomfor a small update about the game too!)

So here we are, with just ten days left! We’re in a good position right now but we have a lot of ground to cover to reach our goal. The good news is, it’s very doable! The last week of a campaign is where most of the action happens, so we still have a very good chance! We just need to do a ton of work spreading the word and making sure everyone knows about it.

So what’s the plan?

Sneaky Ninja Kickstarter Update #13: Friend Features – Sending Items, Magical Blessings, and Challenges

View the Kickstarter

View this update on Kickstarter

Over 100 backers! And two weeks left!!

A big big big thank you to everyone who’s brought us this far! We’re almost out of the dreaded mid-campaign slump where everything slows down, so now it’s time to kick things into overdrive to make sure we get funded! We’ll be appearing at a few local indie game events to reach as many new faces as we can, but you can get in on the word-spreading fun!Keep sharing with your friends and bugging them until they donate or share too! We’re in a decent place so far, but these last two weeks are absolutely vital to Sneaky Ninja’s success.Every bit of help is appreciated, no matter how small!

And now, with that out of the way, let’s talk about…

This is another stretch goal that we’ll be trying to implement either way — we had been calling it “Social Features” everywhere else, but that tends to give people the wrong idea. We’re not trying to link to your Facebook account and post status updates about how many Samurai you snuck passed — we want to add social functionality where it actually matters: the gameplay!

mailbox4Here’s the mailbox, located in the hub, which will be your go-to place for all your friendly interaction needs. You’ll be able to communicate with your other friends who play Sneaky Ninja, or maybe even send something out randomly to brighten up a stranger’s day! Here’s a few different kinds of interaction we’re thinking about:

  • You’ve Got Mail!
You can send letters to each other with items, coins, or accessories attached, to lend a helping hand or maybe share some rare loot you found!
  • How Fortunate! A fortune teller in the hub can cast a one-use magical spell on you, like restoring your health when you lose all your hearts in a level, or turning you invisible right as you were about to get caught. You can also have one cast on a friend! They won’t know you did it until it saves them in a pinch, and they’ll have a “you’re welcome” letter waiting for them when they get back!
  • A Challenger Approaches!
Send different kinds of challenges to your friends, like speedrunning a level as fast as you can or slipping through a difficult level unseen. Feeling extra competitive? Wager some coins and rake it in when your friend can’t match your skills!
  • And More…
We have a few other ideas that we’re a bit less ready to commit too, but it would be awesome to tackle them and see if we can do it. Like sharing replays of yourself completing a level, maybe — who knows?

And that’s all for now!
